Apple is planning new connector for iPhone 5

24 July 2012 No Comment

The main reason behind this new connector is logical: a reduction in space required for connectors. The current connector is particularly wide (21mm), while the new would be much smaller, with a bonus room to the other components … Or other connections.

Reuters says that Apple would include placing the 3.5 mm jack for audio output in the iPhone, according to two sources familiar with the project. But although this new connector offers advantages, it inherently causes a serious problem for users: already, it is unclear how the user can take advantage of the headphone output while connecting the iPhone on a dock classical, but mostly arises the question of compatibility with existing equipment.

For many years, accessory manufacturers have indeed built an entire ecosystem including both music docks as various adapters. Result: the new iPhone should necessarily be accompanied by new equipment. An important point to consider when buying the next smartphone. A planned obsolescence by an incompatibility imagined from scratch by the manufacturer, but these products are still working fine. And evoke just the footprint that will generate the disposal of these products worldwide. Except for consumers who have decided to opt for an adapter …

Apple could of course offer a 19 to 30 pin adapter, which would solve the problem in many situations. Regarding the docks music however, the situation is more complicated. Devices such as iPod and iPhone plug into the same support provided for this location. With the adapter, it is not certain that this connection could still be done simply.
