ASUS to launch World’s Cheapest Dual Screen e-Book Reader

Technology.am (Sept. 07, 2009) — Unlike current single flat screen ebook readers, Asus plans to develop a book-like eReader which has a hinged spine, like a printed book.

eeereaderThis Eee Reader can be closed like a book and used as a tablet. The current ebook readers have monochrome screens, but Asus Eee Reader would be full colour.

In addition to full color screen, Asus aims to give the reader mic, webcam and speaker so that it could be used for Skype calls.

The dual screen enable you to read books much like a normal book, using the touchscreen to “turn” the pages from one screen to the next

Or you could use the secondary panel to surf the web, type on a virtual keyboard.

There is option to see the text on one screen while browsing a web page on the other.

According to the company’s president Jerry Shen, the Eee Reader will become the planet’s cheapest e-book reader.

Asus plans the two versions of their eBook Reader, budget and a premium version. Asus’s rival on the market is the Cool-er, which costs £189. Asus aims to be nearer the £100 mark.
