Breathalyzer detects Lung Cancer with 86 per cent accuracy
Technology.am (Aug 31, 2009) — Israeli Scientists, Hossam Haick, have devised a portable breath tester that can detect lung cancer in just two or three minutes with 86 per cent accuracy by analyzing a patient’s breath.
The breath tester device detects cancer early, before tumors become visible in X-rays or blood tests and when it’s most treatable.
The sensor uses gold nano-particles to detect levels of so-called volatile organic compounds (VOC) that become more elevated in cancer patients.
Early detection of lung cancer can save more patients, currently only 15 per cent of cases being discovered before the disease has begun to spread.
