Technology.am (July 22, 2009) — Ford Motor Co. plans to offer a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine for some of its vehicles starting next year.
The new I-4 EcoBoost two-liter, four-cylinder engine provides greater fuel economy to consumers without compromising on horsepower and it will make a vehicle perform like one carrying a six-cylinder engine.
With newly EcoBoost engines, the company targets at 20 percent better fuel economy, and currently offer a six-cylinder version in some cars such as the Ford Flex, which allows for eight-cylinder performance.

Technology.am (July 21, 2009) — Toyota is planting giant solar-powered flowers in urban areas. The flowers generate electricity and provide free Wi-Fi. The flowers operate daily from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.
The 18-foot flowers have solar cells behind their petals and at the base of the stem. The generated electricity travels down the stem to plastic green benches with 110-volt outlets. Each of the five flower provide room for up to 10 people to sit while charging their cell phones, laptops and other devices.

Technology.am (July 20, 2009) — Researchers have developed an OLED with a color temperature range of 2,300-8,200k, which it claimed is the world’s first OLED that can provide light color close to natural sunlight.
The research team at Materials Science and Engineering Department of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan said, by changing the voltage, the OLED can mimic sunrise color at 3,000k, sunset color at 2,500k, cloudy sky color at 6,500k and sunny day color at 8,000k.
They added that their OLED can be processed on a plastic substrate.

Technology.am (July 20, 2009) — Rickshaw pullers will no longer have to pedal the vehicle as Indian scientists have developed a solar electric rickshaw.
This solar electric rickshaw is named Soleckshaw and is developed by Indian CSIR’s Central Mechanical and Engineering Research Institute (CMERI).
The new rickshaw is motor-assisted and therefore is likely to be driven easily both in the plains and the hills. The tricycle will run at a speed of 15 km per hour. It can be driven for as much as 40 kms.
