The Nokia 5800; once it was the most feature packed phone, shy of an iPhone. Nowadays, with Android and Windows Phone OS devices flooding the market, it really isn’t competitive.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Review

In comparison, the Nokia 5800 uses the Symbian OS. Once again, it was the world’s biggest OS at one point – it didn’t require much processing power, it did everything a feature phone should do and it could access the internet. Then, the app revolution occurred and the Symbian app store just couldn’t compete. Now, even Nokia has turned their back on the OS, instead migrating to Windows Phone 7.

Still, it’s not all doom and gloom. You can pick the phone up for $200, unlocked and untied to a lengthy contract. No data plans required, and you could happily get by for $35/month with unlimited data, texts and 300 minutes. Try getting that on any new release model. When contracts typically cost more than $100/month, this is a cheap and affordable way to get a mobile phone that can still access the web. It can also handle music surprisingly well and the battery lasts a good two or three days (try getting that out of a modern smartphone.)

The simplicity of the OS was arguably its biggest downfall, but it can also be a good thing; not too good with technology? This phone is perfect for you. Simple, clear icons mean you shouldn’t get lost while using this phone.

Conclusion

In conclusion it’s a cheap and cheerful feature phone. We’ve avoided calling it a smartphone as it doesn’t have many apps and isn’t quite as powerful as a smartphone, but it is by no means a bad phone. If you want a touchscreen device that doesn’t cost a huge amount and you want to listen to occasional music, this is your device.
