Panda Presents Cloud-Based Free Antivirus
Technology.am (Apr. 30, 2009) — Panda Security announced the global beta release of Panda Cloud Antivirus, a new protection model with lightweight thin-client agent and real-time scanning-from-the-cloud.
This is the industry’s first and only free cloud-based antivirus. It is community-based protection system automatically classifies new malware in under six minutes with 50 percent less impact on PC performance and that it handles more than 50,000 new samples per day.
The cloud computing technology, called Collective Intelligence, to detect viruses, malware, rootkits and heuristics.
Panda decided to offer the Panda Cloud Antivirus for free in exchange for using consumer data to build the Collective Intelligence database, said Pedro Bustamante, senior research adviser at Panda Security.
Panda Cloud Antivirus works by classifying threats into executables that must be scanned immediately, and non-executables that are checked at a lower priority–usually when the computer is idle.
Panda Cloud Antivirus includes local and remote antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, heuristics and goodware cache, while only consuming an average of 17 MB of RAM and 50 percent of the PC performance impact as compared to the industry average.
Panda Cloud Antivirus is for Windows XP and Windows Vista, with planned support for Windows 7 when it’s released.
