Top 10 Android Phones Released in 2012

2012 is undoubtedly the year of Android phones. The Google-owned operating system is now used by the vast majority of leading smartphone manufacturers and as a result, Android is now the dominant force in terms of market share, surpassing the once all-conquering Apple iPhone. If you are looking to purchase yourself a shiny new Android phone with great design, you are certainly not stuck for choice. However, if you want a truly great phone, you should probably choose a phone from the following list of the top 10 Android phones released in 2012:

10. Sony Xperia P

One of three new phones released by Sony this year in the Xperia range, the Xperia P may have to play second fiddle to the flagship Xperia S, but is still a fine phone in its own right. Boasting a stunning 4.0-inch LCD 275ppi screen, a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor and a feature-heavy 8-MP camera, this Android 2.3 Gingerbread phone is worth anybody’s attention.

9. Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

One of many budget smartphones that Samsung has released in the past couple of years, the Galaxy Ace 2 is the successor to the popular Galaxy Ace and one of the best phones on the market in terms of usability. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is powered by a dual-core 800MHz processor and 768MB RAM. The 3.8-inch screen has a pixel density of 246ppi add to the phone’s appeal.

8. HTC Desire C

The first entry on the list for HTC is the latest addition to the popular Desire range. The HTC Desire C is a great entry-level Android phone and runs 4.0 ICS and HTC Sense UI v4.0 straight out of the box. A modest 600MHz processor and 512MB RAM does not take anything away from the quality of this phone.

7. HTC One S

2012 is a big year for HTC and their release of the new ‘One’ series certainly shows the Taiwanese company’s desire to rival Samsung at the top of the Android market. The HTC One S has a 540x960p 4.3-inch 275ppi screen, a dual-core processor clocking an impressive 1.5GHz and an 8-MP camera with 1080p HD video recording that is as good as you will find on a smartphone.

6. Sony Xperia S

Sony’s flagship phone in the Xperia range in certainly one of the most impressive on the market and features the best camera ever seen on a smartphone at 12-MP and a mouth-watering 4.3-inch screen offering a pixel density of 342ppi. The Xperia runs 2.3 Gingerbread (which will be upgraded to 4.0 ICS) and has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

5. Huawei Ascend D Quad

Huawei are beginning to make a name for themselves in the smartphone market and the Ascend D Quad is an incredible phone. Sporting a 720x1280p 4.5-inch display, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and running 4.0 ICS, this phone is one that can rival the leading names in smartphones.

4. Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX

The Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX is probably the best phone Motorola has ever released and is one that will impress many smartphone fans. A stunning 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB RAM. There is an 8-MP rear-facing camera and 1.3-MP front facing camera, both with HD recording – 1080p and 720p respectively. Combine these features with excellent usability and you have a great phone.

3. LG Optimus LTE2

The latest Optimus from LG has one of the most talked about features in smartphones – a massive 2GB RAM; however, this is not all it has. There is a 4.7-inch 312ppi display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-MP camera and Android 4.0 ICS. The LTE2 also has more features than you could ever want from a smartphone.

One of the best smartphones ever made, HTC’s flagship One X boasts a stunning 720x1280p 4.7-inch 312ppi screen, an 8-MP 1080p camera, Android 4.0 ICS and Beats Audio. A quad-core 1.5 GHz processor and 1GB RAM helps to make multitasking a breeze on this beast of a phone. This phone should be high on everyone’s wish list.

1. Samsung Galaxy S3

Probably the best smartphone the world has ever seen. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a giant 4.8-inch display which offers up a brilliant picture regardless of viewing angle or light condition. The phone runs Android 4.0 ICS, with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI for added user experience. There is an 8-MP camera with an array of features and an impressive 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM for superior performance. A truly awesome phone.
