18 April 2012 One Comment

Most smartphone makers try to promote their devices by drawing everybody’s attention to the powerful specs and features. But the truth is – you can’t really surprise anyone with powerful features today – almost all high-end phones have them. And besides, some people are just looking for a phone that is cool and beautifully designed.

So which are the most well-designed smartphones on the current market? Let’s try to find out!

1. Apple iPhone 4S – Classics

We have chosen the iPhone 4S simply as a representation for how the Apple way of designing phones has revolutionized the mobile phone market. Once simply a communicative convenience, Apple took the mobile phone concept and created the smartphone. However, they also made the iPhone something fashionable, making it an identifiable must-have item rather than just something to keep in a bag or pocket when not texting or making calls.

Even though there are so many iPhone 4S deals available, the concept of the iPhone was its biggest selling point, and the 4S has taken this further, through pushing the boundaries of smartphone possibilities by including new features such as dual-core processor speeds, Siri voice technology and 8 megapixel photo capture. The other benefit of this phone is that you can be sure that Apple will keep on improving with later models.

2. Huawei Ascend PS1 – Thin

Next we choose the Huawei PS1, for its distinctive slim profile. Hailed as the thinnest smartphone on the market, the PS1 also packs great hardware underneath its thin dimensions. A dual-core 1.5 GHz processor provides great speed, along with 1GB of RAM. On top of this, the phone boasts an 8 megapixel camera that creates great shots and video footage.

Huawei are attempting to make a significant mark on the market at the moment, and producing such a great phone with a profile that will turn heads, look smart and make the phone practical and user friendly will certainly go a long way towards achieving this.

3. Motorola Droid Razr Maxx – Long-lasting

We have chosen the Droid Razr Maxx purely due to Motorola‘s ability with this phone to provide both original design (unlike most “rounded” phones) and some of the best specs on the market currently, including an extremely good battery life.

The phone boasts a dual-core processing power, an 8 megapixel camera, 4G capability and Android 4.0 within a sleek looking phone that sells itself within those aspects alone. However, rather than just providing those features whilst neglecting the battery life of the phone, as has been seen with so many phones in the past, Motorola have given the battery life a huge boost, resulting in 21.5 hours of continuous talk time, or 380 hours of standby time, making it the smartphone with the greatest battery on the market. Any person tired of their smartphone dying after one day’s use will certainly wish to look into this phone.

4. Samsung 4G Infuse – Light

We have chosen this phone for similar reasons to the Ascend PS1, in that it combines great technology within a thin and light handset that wows many when they pick it up. The phone was released in May 2011 and was one of the first smartphones to properly attempt to reign in the increasing bulk and weight of smartphones.

However, with an 8 megapixel camera and 1.2 GHz processor, it still managed to push its competition through its hardware. At just 9 millimeters thick, the phone really took the mobile world to town, as the thinnest smartphone seen. It subsequently had extremely reduced weight also, weighing in at just 135 grams. The designers at Samsung had clearly been put to work to extreme measures for this phone, and their work clearly paid off.

5. Adzero Bamboo Phone – Cool

We end this feature with something of a novelty. Back in February a British student announced that he had produced, manufactured and was marketing a smartphone made from bamboo. The rear casing of the “Adzero” and some other parts are made from the exotic plant, which makes the phone both environmentally friendly and also extremely light. However, the phone is not simply a poor model selling itself on a quirky feature. The phone runs Android and has also utilized light features that the manufacturer claims improves the quality of photographs. The woody image of the phone makes it extremely unique, and has to be commended for its outside the box sort of thinking.
