Top Fuel-Efficient Green Cars of 2012

If the harmful greenhouse gases really worry you and are determined to save the planet, then you can very well opt for a green car. Even if you are not bothered about these life threatening issues, buying a green car can have other benefits also. In an economy where fuel prices are touching the sky limit, going for a green car will definitively help you save money.

Earlier, these hybrid cars shared one thing in common, outrageous prices. But when saving our planet became the prime motto, the price of the hybrid cars have consistently reduced.  Though these hybrid vehicles are not showing high levels of sale increase, the sales have enhanced significantly since they were launched. This proves that consumers have taken an interest in improved fuel economy.

As per the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, the most popular green vehicle this year is the electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV with an ownership cost of $29,000.  Here we are hooking some of the most economical green cars of 2012 for you.

Toyota Prius c

Toyota Prius c is designed by Toyotato make your journey cheaper and efficient. Prius C is the third in the Prius series. It features a 1.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder, 16–valve with VVT-i gasoline engine with a high-output motor. It has been ranked by the EPA as the 2012 most fuel efficient compact car.

Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf from the Nissan is the five-door hatchback electric car with a fuel efficiency of 99 miles per gallon. The vehicle brings no green house emissions and reduces the dependence on petroleum. The Leaf features 80 kW and 280 N·m front-mounted synchronous electric motor driving the wheels, powered by a 24 kilowatt-hours lithium ion battery pack rated to deliver up to 120 hp power.

Mitsubishi i-miev

Mitsubishi is the one of the most fuel efficient green cars of 2012. It can get 62 miles per gallon range. The car uses a 16-kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. The i MiEV is rated at 148.67 miles per gallon. It has 66 horsepower with 145 lb.-ft. of torque. This four-seater will cost around $30,000.

Chevrolet Volt

What makes Chevrolet Volt popular is that it gives the consumer choices on energy sources. The consumer can either fill the tank or charge at the charging stations. It can get a mileage of estimated 35 miles. And there’s also an onboard gas generator that produces electricity which helps you to go up to a total of 375 miles on a full tank of gas.

 

Honda Civic EV

Honda Civic rocks with 40 miles to the gallon. It is powered by a 1,169 cc four-cylinder water-cooled engine. It has been termed as the most fuel-efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly vehicle.

Lexus CT 200h

Lexus CT200h is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with a 650-volt electric motor system, altogether making 134 horsepower. Many will get averages close to the EPA’s 42 mpg city, 41 highway ratings. It costs around $29,120.

Volkswagen Passat

With its brilliant fuel efficiency, Volkswagen Passat becomes more pleasant and desirable. It uses an electric motor producing 114 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. It is packed with a 26.5-kWh lithium-ion battery making it all the more powerful.

Ford Escape Hybrid

Ford Escape Hybrid is the first American-built hybrid and the first hybrid vehicle from an American automaker. The hybrid has approximately 75% greater efficiency, with about 33 to 36 mpg-U.S.in city traffic.  Ford which costs around $30,570 uses a hybrid technology that combines power with fuel efficiency.

Scion iQ

Scion iQ’s 1.3 liter, 4-cylinder engine produces 94 hp. The Continuously Variable Transmission helps to minimize emissions. It has been ranked as the one of the most fuel-efficient cars inCanada. It has a fuel economy of 5.1 L/100 KM. This sporty and trendy car will definitely provide you with fuel efficiency and power.

Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln MKZ is available with a 3.5-liter V6 with 6-speed automatic transmission. It is equipped with a front-wheel drive and a hybrid gas-electric powertrain that uses a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Lincoln MKZ Hybrid model costs around $34,330.
