The beauty of nature is further enhanced with the presence of attractively colored birds. Nature displays great skill in creating such beautiful flying mysteries. These winged wonders sometimes leave us thunderstruck with their spectacular show of colors.  Here we showcase for you an extravagant parade of some of the most beautiful birds on the planet.

Rainbow Lorikeet

The bird with its glorious display of rainbow colors makes nature more beautiful and colorful. Lorikeets are parrots fromAustralasia. They can be found in the eastern seaboard of Australia and Tasmania.  They usually reside in rainforests, coastal bush and woodland areas.

Golden Pheasant

Golden Pheasant is one of the most visually attractive birds in the world. They are sometimes called as ‘Chinese Pheasant”. These game birds are native to western China, but have been bred in other countries like the UK. They attract everyone’s affection with its golden crest, rump and bright red body. In order to lure its mate, the male majestically spreads his deep orange ‘cape’, which resembles a black and orange fan covering everything except the bright yellow eye.

Bali Bird of Paradise

Like the name suggest, this bird of paradise is surprisingly beautiful. A native of New Guinea Island, it has forty different varieties. The first thing you will notice is its colorful plumage. Some varieties display elaborate features extending from the beak, wings and head that can keep you awestruck. You will see them only in films, because they mainly live in deep rainforest habitats.

Scarlet Macaw

This magnificent bird of colors has a long tail weighing in at around 2.2lbs. They are the national symbol ofHonduras. Their plumage carries colors like scarlet for which it is named, light blue, yellow, dark red with metallic gold iridescence, and even some green in the wings. They reside in humid evergreen forests in the American tropics. They have bare white skin around the eye down to the beak, and lots of tiny white feathers on their faces.

Kingfisher is the common bird you will see in your surroundings. It comes in different species. The multitude of nuances of blue and orange is for sure a sight to be seen. The male displays green, blue, grey, buff, and bright red colors. These birds reside in well-wooded habitats near lakes, rivers and coasts

Painted Bunting

This small but beautiful bird is the most beautifully painted bird in theNorth America. As a key element in the mating rituals, it displays the dark blue, green, red and shades to attract female birds. The Painted Bunting lives in thickets, woodland edges and brushy areas, along roadsides, in suburban areas, and gardens all over theUSA.

Keel Billed Toucan

The first thing we notice in a Keel Billed Toucan is its rainbow bill. Though it may invoke a feeling of fear, this Keel-billed is truly a spectacular sight. The national bird ofBelizeis commonly found in the canopies of rainforests. This Sulfur -breasted bird carries a rainbow in its bill.

The American Kestrel belongs to the small falcon family. The Kestrel is colloquially known inAmericaas the “Sparrow Hawk”. The royal stature of this predator bird is further enhanced with its beautifully colored feathers.

Gurney Pitta

Gurney Pitta is one of the rarest and most endangered birds in the universe. This black-breasted bird has golden-brown wings and backs, and the tail is turquoise blue. It is a medium-sized passerine bird. It is restricted to Malay Peninsula, with populations inThailandandBurma.

 

Parrot

The parrot family consists of many species like Macaws, Amazons, lorikeets, lovebirds, cockatoos and many others. Parrots have been our companions for ages. The most common feature of parrot varieties is that they have curved beaks and all are zygodactyls. The greatest diversities exist in Australasia, Central America, andSouth America. They cam imitate sounds, especially human speech.

 

Red-and-Green Macaw

The Red-and-green Macaw, also known as the Green-winged Macaw is the largest in the Ara genus. It breeds in the forests and woodlands of northern and central South America. They are on the verge of extinction due to the habitat loss and illegal capture. This red-breasted bird may blow-your-mind off with its beautiful display of red and green colors. It has characteristic red lines around the eyes formed by rows of tiny feathers. It is truly a privilege to see them.

 

Cocatoo

A cockatoo is part of the bird family Cacatuidae. It has a total length of 44–55 cm, with the Australian subspecies larger than subspecies fromNew Guinea and nearby islands. The plumage is overall white, while the under wing and -tail are tinged yellow. This Sulphur-crested Cockatoos can be found widely in the north and east, ranging as far south as Tasmania.

Puffin or Lundi

Puffin belongs to the seabird auk family. It has great flexibility in ocean waters which presented it the nick name Clown of the ocean. It develops its brightly colored beak during its breading season. This excellent bird of beauty resides mainly in Faroe Islands, in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Quetzal is part of the trogon family. The bird derives its name from an early Aztec word “quetzalli,” meaning bird’s beautiful tail feathers. These fastest flyers have long tails that grow up to 2ft in length.

Wood Duck can be regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfowls on earth. They are web toed with strong legs and powerful beaks. It is commonly found inNorth America. A typical adult is from 47 to 54 cm in length with a wingspan of 66 to 73 cm. It belongs to the Asian Mandarin Duck family.

Their beauty is seen on their heads colored with washed green in addition to their outer elongated, shining, black-greenish feathers on their wings.
