Technology.am (Aug. 13, 2009) — The world’s second largest processor manufacturer, Advanced Micro Devices, AMD have officially announced their new flagship processor, the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition running at an impressive 3.4GHz- 200 MHz faster than its predecessor, the Phenom II X4 955 BE.
With a clock frequency of 3.4GHz, the Phenom II X4 965 BE is the fastest clocked quad-core processor that AMD has ever released.
The best part of the Phenom II X4 965 is that it can be purchased for just $245 shipped. Based on pricing alone, the Phenom II X4 965 could be best compared to the $220 shipped Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz processor.
The Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz offers a 61-percent performance boost over the company’s Phenom 9950 but, at 121W under load and 9W at idle, consumes less power than that earlier chip and is the highest frequency CPU AMD has ever made up to date.
Like other 45nm Phenom II chips the X4 965 can selectively set individual cores into sleep-modes, while the CoolCore technology can clock-down inactive portions of L3 cache to both save power and reduce heat output.
