Technology.am (July 15, 2009) — Blockbuster Inc announced an agreement that lets consumers to instantly view movies and video from its OnDemand service on Samsung’s televisions and electronics devices, to regain ground on rival Netflix Inc.
Under the pact Samsung’s next generation of high-definition TVs will include a built-in feature that will enable people to rent the latest DVD releases from Blockbuster with the press of a button on the remote control.
The on Blockbuster’s OnDemand service, is similar to Blockbuster’s existing pacts with TV maker Vizio and digital video recorder maker TiVo Inc.
Rival video distribution players Netflix and Amazon.com also provide video to TiVo users’ TVs.
It is expected that Blockbuster rentals to be priced from $1.99 to $3.99 apiece for a 24-hour viewing opportunity.
