Technology.am (July 22, 2009) — Ford Motor Co. plans to offer a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine for some of its vehicles starting next year.
The new I-4 EcoBoost two-liter, four-cylinder engine provides greater fuel economy to consumers without compromising on horsepower and it will make a vehicle perform like one carrying a six-cylinder engine.
With newly EcoBoost engines, the company targets at 20 percent better fuel economy, and currently offer a six-cylinder version in some cars such as the Ford Flex, which allows for eight-cylinder performance.
An EcoBoost engine vehicle costs a few thousand dollars more than the traditional engine vehicle.
The company is aiming towards meeting the goal of improved engines in 90 percent of its product lineup by 2013
