Technology.am (Aug. 17, 2009) — TomTom’s long-awaited turn-by-turn car navigation app for the iPhone is now available on the US iTunes App Store.
The $100 app uses the iPhone’s built-in GPS circuitry to provide real-time, turn-by-turn navigation and multi-touch support for the touchscreen interface.
Unlike AT&T’s Navigator app, which requires a monthly service fee, TomTom’s app is a one-time purchase.
After starting with New Zealand a few hours ago, the iTunes App Store is now populated with region specific TomTom apps for NZ ($95), Australia ($80), US and Canada ($100), and Western Europe ($140).
The app is a fully featured turn-by-turn GPS system that includes:
Tap and go: This app lets you tap your way from A to B.
The smartest routes or IQ Routes: TomTom IQ Routes will always calculate the smartest, most efficient route-saving you time, fuel and money rather than simply shortest route.
Go your own way: This app suggests see your route, your way and stop following others. Simply rotate from portrait to landscape to get an easier view of the road ahead.
Find a restaurant: Choose a restaurant on the way, call to reserve your table.
Meet friend: TomTom app will find the way to reach your friend.
TomTom is also offering a bundle including the application and a car cradle kit that offers enhanced GPS performance, a charging port and hands-free calling.
