Technology.am (July 22, 2009) — Yahoo unveiled a redesigned Yahoo.com front page. The new page gives users a way to personalize Yahoo.com so they can check in with other sites, such as Facebook, Gmail and e-Bay using a brand-new “My Favorites” section.
Yahoo has built Web widgets that link to more than 65 other sites. These can all be added with a simple point and click, but users can add their own Web sites too and edit the layout of the front page.
The most significant change is in Yahoo’s right-hand column, which has been renamed My Favorites. Under the old home page, this column was filled with Yahoo services including games, shopping, Yahoo personals and other features.
Yahoo’s redesigned front page features less advertising than its predecessor. Yahoo has scrapped its “Marketplace” section, which featured links to advertising.
Yahoo says the new home page is designed to help you stay on top of what is going on in your world, and on the rest of the planet.
A new version of Yahoo.com for mobile users is set to launch next week. The new design has already been beta tested by tens of thousands of users, and the new design should be available worldwide by early next year.
